“In the middle of filming this elaborate, beautiful musical, your divorce was also finalized with Ben,” Melvin, 46, said while discussing Lopez’s newest film, “Kiss of the Spider Woman.”
“There you go!” Lopez, 56, fired back. “Look at this guy!”
The “Today” host, however, clarified that he only brought the subject up because Affleck, 53, helped produce the Bill Condon-directed musical drama.
“But then I read that your ex is an executive producer on the film,” he said.
Lopez went on to laugh about the situation before acknowledging her ex-husband’s role in producing “Kiss of the Spider Woman.”
“If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have gotten made,” the hitmaker shared. “And I will always give him that credit.”
“And yeah, things happen, you have to keep going,” she added regarding their split.
Although Lopez didn’t elaborate further about her and the “Good Will Hunting” star’s divorce, she did acknowledge how the new movie helped her navigate through a difficult moment in her life.
“It’s funny, the movie is about escapism. It’s about how movies and art save us in the hardest times of our lives,” she explained. “Doing this project was such a dream come true for me that it really got me through to kind of survive a moment that was difficult in my personal life as well.”
As for what’s next for the pop icon, Lopez said she “took some time off” after filming “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and “now we’re back.”
“I’m really excited for everybody to see this film,” she shared. “It’s a beautiful film about love.”
“And it sounds like it might have helped save you,” Melvin added, before Lopez replied, “It did, it did!”
Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in the spring of 2021, years after breaking off their first engagement in 2004.
The pair went on to tie the knot in 2022 — but the union didn’t last.
The “Selena” star pulled the plug on their marriage in August 2024 after they quietly parted ways earlier that year.
Lopez and the “Justice League” actor settled their divorce in January 2025, and it was finalized one month later.
J.Lo previously opened up about filming “Kiss of the Spider Woman” amid her split from Affleck during a sitdown with “CBS News Sunday Morning” last month.
“It was a really tough time,” she told host Lee Cowan. “Every moment on set, every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy, and then it was like, back home, it was not great.”
“And it was just like, oh, you know, ‘How do I reconcile this?’” Lopez added.
Affleck, meanwhile, praised his ex following their split.
“For the record, Jennifer Lopez is spectacular, great to my kids, great ongoing relationship with them,” he said in April. “I love her kids. They’re wonderful.”
“She’s an enormously important, tremendous person of a lot of integrity who I adore and am grateful to,” Affleck added.
The actor star shares three kids, Samuel, 13, Seraphina, 16, and Violet, 19, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, while Lopez shares twins Emme and Max, 17, with ex-husband Marc Anthony.
