Jets’ Armand Membou commits four penalties in day to forget

Armand Membou nearly filled out a bingo card’s worth of offensive lineman penalties.

The rookie Jets right tackle was flagged for an illegal man downfield, a holding, a false start and an offside during the penalty-filled 37-22 loss to the Cowboys.

He had not committed a penalty in any of the first four games.

Membou declined multiple interview requests after the game and slipped on his headphones as he left the locker room.

“First and foremost, chin up,” second-year left tackle Olu Fashanu said of his advice to Membou. “He’s a rookie, so it’s inevitable that mistakes will happen. You can’t dwell on it too much. Armand is super smart. You learn from it.

“I was in his shoes — a rookie tackle. With that comes a lot of pressure. I think he’s been doing a phenomenal job with that.”

The Jets committed 11 penalties for 91 yards to up their six-day, two-game total to 24 for 192.

“Before you shift blame on anyone, you have to look at yourself,” Fashanu said. “For me, there are games I haven’t been playing up to my standard.”

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer was the Jets offensive coordinator from 2006-11. He earned his first career road win in familiar territory.

“I don’t even think about that, I’ll be honest with you,” Schottenheimer said.

Schottenheimer shouted out Jets security guard Bobby Mastrodi and former Jets star Curtis Martin, both of whom he saw before the game.

“These are guys that I bled with,” Schottenheimer said. “But I’m a live-in-the-moment guy. And it was special to be in that locker room and celebrate with those guys.”

Rookie LB Kiko Mauigoa walked out of the locker room with a walking boot on his left foot.

That’s a problem for the Jets because Mauigoa already has been pushed from a special teams role into defensive starter by the injured-reserve stints for Quincy Williams and Marcelino McCrary-Ball.

Rookie DE Tyler Baron missed the tackle on the 66-yard run down to the 1-yard line by Javonte Williams in the final minute of the first half.

“I’ve just got to make that play. That’s a play I’m supposed to make,” Baron said. “It’s as simple as that.

“It’s just tough. I felt like I let the guys down. I’ll just make sure the next time I’m in that position, I’ll just make that play.”

DE Jermaine Johnson, CB Michael Carter II, RB Kene Nwangwu, OT Esa Pole, TE Stone Smartt, TE Jelani Woods and DL Leonard Taylor III were inactive.

Let’s be honest—no matter how stressful the day gets, a good viral video can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a funny pet doing something silly, a heartwarming moment between strangers, or a wild dance challenge, viral videos are what keep the internet fun and alive.
