JJ Watt sounds alarm on ‘unrecognizable’ Ravens defense as Texans roll

Things are not going well in Ravens country, and former NFL defensive end, and current CBS broadcaster J.J. Watt had no problem calling out Baltimore’s defense after they had fallen behind 30-3 in the third quarter.

The critique came after Nick Chubb rushed for a 27-yard touchdown as the Ravens’ defense haplessly tried to make a tackle.

“This has just become an unreconizable Baltimore Ravens defense from what they used to be,” Watt said before breaking down the play. “This just isn’t the Baltimore Ravens that we’ve come to know. It doesn’t feel right.”

The Ravens have been on a downward spiral this season as the team dropped to 1-4 through the first four weeks of the 2025 campaign with Sunday’s 44-10 loss to the Texans.

They had already entered their Week 5 showdown having given up 16 touchdowns, which had been tied with the Cowboys for the most in the NFL.

The Ravens had also allowed, on average, 141.3 passing yards and their 33.3 average points allowed through the first four weeks was the worst in the league.

While the latest loss and the poor defensive play have only drawn a bigger spotlight on that particular aspect of the Ravens, following the team’s third straight loss, head coach John Harbaugh shot down the idea of firing defensive coordinator Zach Orr.

“You try to do the most productive things and I do not think that’s the answer,” he told reporters. “We have to go to work is what we need to do. We need to stick together is what we need to do. We need to find ourselves, and that has to do with the coaches and players together.”

Things have not been going the Ravens’ way this season, which included losing Lamar Jackson for this week’s game due to a hamstring injury he suffered in their Week 4 loss to the Chiefs.
