Derek Jeter-David Samson feud exploded into Hall of Fame shouting match

Bygones are not bygones when it comes to Derek Jeter and David Samson.

Samson, the former Marlins executive, has long been critical of the ex-Yankees captain for his short-lived tenure as a minority owner and CEO of the Miami franchise, and that beef went from simmering to a full-on boil during the Hall of Fame weekend in July.

They ran into one another in Cooperstown — Samson as part of Ichiro Suzuki’s delegation — and it didn’t take long for the lingering feelings to get exposed.

“I hadn’t seen him since the transaction,” Samson, now a podcaster, told Pablo Torre on his “Pablo Finds Out” show. “I saw him in Cooperstown and I approached him with my son and I just said, ‘Good to see you’ and extended my hand and he did he just looked at me …  and he said, ‘Oh, you brought your camera crew, I’m sure.’ And I said, ‘Actually that’s my son.’ He said, ‘Sure it is.’ And my son was just standing there, like jaw open. And then Derek started talking about how angry he was about everything.

“And I said, ‘Derek, I’m happy I live rent free in your head and thank you for watching the show every day.’ He had people listen to our show every day, every day while he was still employed with the Marlins. And I then just said, ‘OK.’ And and he started walking away. I started walking away, and he yelled across the Hall of Fame store some terrible thing toward me, and my son was standing right there and … this is Derek Jeter, like, yelling at Caleb’s dad. It was ridiculous — and this was recent.”

A request for comment from Jeter’s team was not returned as of publish.

The history between the two is well-chronicled: Samson was president of the Marlins when a Jeter and Bruce Sherman-led contingency bought the franchise in 2017 and quickly fired Samson — who found out via ESPN alert.

Jeter lasted for five years in his executive position before leaving over direction of the team in 2022, with his time there attracting plenty of commentary.

That seemingly extends to this day.

“Derek Jeter has a problem,” Samson told Torre. “I mean, that’s the bottom line. He has a problem of aptitude. He has a problem in everything other than being a shortstop.”

Let’s be honest—no matter how stressful the day gets, a good viral video can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a funny pet doing something silly, a heartwarming moment between strangers, or a wild dance challenge, viral videos are what keep the internet fun and alive.
