“We’ve been on quite the journey over the last 33 years—and yet, I love you even more today than the day we said ‘I do.,’” the former First Lady, 61, wrote alongside a photo of her and her husband smiling.
“Happy anniversary, @BarackObama! I’m so lucky to go through life with you. ❤️,” she concluded.
The former president, 64, also commemorated his marriage on social media using the same photo.
“The best decision I ever made was marrying you, @MichelleObama,” he captioned it. “For 33 years, I’ve admired your strength, grace, and determination — and the fact that you look so good doing it all. Happy anniversary!”
The couple got together after Michelle was assigned as Barack’s mentor at a law firm.
She explained during an August episode of her podcast, “IMO,” that she assumed the new hire — aka Barack — was “probably a little weird” and “nerdy.” However, she felt a “sparky feeling” when they first spoke on the phone before meeting in person.
Although the two went on to “really hit off” during a long lunch, Michelle initially ruled out a relationship with Barack because she was his advisor and didn’t want to come across as “tacky” and “inappropriate.”
That clearly didn’t work as the two went on to get married in 1992 and welcomed daughters, Malia, now 27, and Sasha, now 24.
Most recently, the duo was plagued by divorce rumors after Barack attended a few political events by himself, including former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Trump’s inauguration.
A source told us in January that Michelle was “checked out” of life in DC.
She was later forced to address the rampant rumors, saying on an April episode of Sophia Bush’s “Work in Progress” podcast, “People […] couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself, that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”
The gossip also led to Barack joking that their relationship had been “touch and go for a while” on Michell’s “IMO” podcast.
Let’s be honest—no matter how stressful the day gets, a good viral video can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a funny pet doing something silly, a heartwarming moment between strangers, or a wild dance challenge, viral videos are what keep the internet fun and alive.
