Braelon Allen’s season possibly in doubt as Jets injury timeline revealed

The Jets are going to be without Braelon Allen for an extended period of time.

The second-year running back, dealing with an MCL injury in his left knee, was placed on Injured Reserve on Thursday, but he’s going to miss much more than the mandated four games.

Coach Aaron Glenn said Friday that the timetable is eight to 12 weeks.

It’s uncertain if Allen will rehab the injury or undergo surgery.

Both methods have the same recovery time, according to Glenn.

In the wake of the news, the Jets signed Khalil Herbert on Thursday.

Glenn said he is unsure if Herbert will play Sunday against the Cowboys.

The bruising Allen, a fourth-round pick a year ago out of Wisconsin, injured his knee during a kickoff in Monday’s loss to the Dolphins.

The Jets were hoping he could form a potent one-two punch in the backfield with Breece Hall.

Herbert will eventually slot in at No. 3 on the running back depth chart for the Jets behind Hall and Isaiah Davis.
