“In our closest moments, I would rub the back of Eric’s head, where his old surgery scar left him vulnerable,” Ray, 42, wrote in her memoir, “Political Humanity,” set to be released Sunday.
“He could sit still for hours if I kept my hand there, as if my touch eased something no one else could reach.”
Ray, who said she dated Adams from 2014 to 2016 and that she remains close to mayor, recounted their whirlwind romance that started with her noticing the then-Brooklyn borough president wearing a “Mr. Rogers sweater” at Barclays Center.
The pair soon shared a romantic walk along Brooklyn Heights’ Promenade, where Adams peppered her with deep questions – revealing a strange shared view of the “purpose of life.”
“I blurted out the first thing that came to mind: ‘To procreate,’” Ray wrote, detailing Adams’ shock.
“That was exactly how he felt, too.”
Early in their courtship, Adams took Ray to a hotel opening and brought her up to a room — leading to a chaste and fully clothed intimate experience, she recounted in the self-published tell-all, a copy of which was obtained by The Post.
Ray made clear she wouldn’t sleep with Adams, prompting him to respond he just wanted some shut-eye, she wrote.
“Minutes later, I laid down,” the book reads. “He did too—fully clothed, not a belt undone. He placed his head on my chest and instantly passed out. And somehow, in the quiet of that room, fully clothed, it was one of the most intimate experiences of my life.”
The lovestruck Ray detailed how their breakup a decade ago unintentionally kept her from truly loving again.
Looking to move beyond Adams, Ray wrote she asked him this year to “release” her.
“He didn’t even flinch before responding ‘no,’” she wrote. “I wasn’t asked to elaborate. I wasn’t even asked why. We both knew what I meant. But here, in these words, in this very moment, and for my own sanity and survival, I am releasing myself.”
