Justine Lupe Talks Welcoming ‘Succession’ Co-Star Arian Moayed to ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2 And Figuring Out Morgan and Sasha’s Complex Dynamic

Justine Lupe really isn’t sure what she wants to happen between her character and Timothy Simons’ in Nobody Wants This.

The actress behind the role of Morgan — the younger sister of Joanne (Kristen Bell) — in the Erin Foster Netflix rom-com may have spent the entire first season building up an undeniable chemistry with Sasha (Simons), but she is seriously questioning if it should go any further.

“I don’t know,” the actress told DECIDER on the carpet of the 2025 Emmy Awards, “I’m a fan of keeping a family intact with a child and a wife, but I also enjoy the chemistry between them.”

She is, of course, referencing Sasha’s wife, Esther (Jackie Tohn), and daughter, Miriam (Shiloh Bearman), who are front of mind for the fans watching as the show teeters back and forth between exploring a deep friendship or something that progresses past the point of platonic. At the end of Season 1, it certainly felt like Sasha and Morgan could be more, even if that was just in the eyes of Esther, reconciling with the idea that her husband may be falling for someone else.

To that, Lupe said that she is more in favor of proving When Harry Met Sally wrong and keeping their dynamic non-romantic — who says men and women can’t just be friends?! These two can absolutely stay friends and not cross a line that could ruin a family… right?

“I hope that we are like best buddies. I want it to be like a buddy comedy situation between the two of them,” the Succession alum explained, “There is a lot of fun between them.”

Sasha and Morgan aren’t the only ones having fun together in Season 2, though. Joining the cast for the sophomore season is Adam Brody‘s real-life leading lady, Leighton Meester, and Lupe’s old co-star from Succession, Arian Moayed. The latter actor will be playing Dr. Andy, a charming psychotherapist and love interest for Morgan.

In the Emmy Award-winning HBO series, Lupe played Willa, the nonchalant and completely uninterested escort who winds up marrying into the Roy family by way of Connor Roy (Alan Ruck) in the show’s fourth season. Moayed, meanwhile, played Stewy Hosseini, a private-equity investor and friend of Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong), who appeared recurrently throughout the series.

“He’s a dream. We didn’t get to work together too much on Succession, but we got to travel a lot together, and I got to know him really well,” Lupe said of welcoming her friend to the Netflix set. “He’s just the most kind, the most professional, the best actor ever.”

She continued, “I was so excited to have him. He did a great job, and I felt proud to be like bringing him into the Nobody Wants This family.” Fans will just have to tune into Nobody Wants This Season 2 to find out if there really are sparks between them or if Sasha and Morgan could become more.

Nobody Wants This Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix. Season 2 premieres on Netflix on October 23.
