Dolphins facing $11M Tyreek Hill question with Miami future in doubt
There’s no guarantee when Miami’s star wide receiver will return to the field — but when he does, he could be wearing another team’s uniform.
The Dolphins finally got their first win of the season with a 27-21 victory over the Jets on Monday, but celebrations were muted after All-Pro wideout Tyreek Hill suffered a gruesome third-quarter injury that ended his season.

Hill, 31, tore several ligaments in his dislocated left knee, including his ACL, and is set to undergo “major reconstruction surgery” on Tuesday.
“With surgery today, it’s possible that Tyreek Hill will undergo additional surgeries,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport posted to X on Tuesday morning, adding that there’s a chance Hill could be sidelined for the 2026 season as well — the final year of his contract.
That harsh reality forces Miami to wrestle with a difficult decision.
According to Rapoport, none of Hill’s $29.9 million salary in 2026 is guaranteed. However, he has an $11 million injury guarantee — on top of a $5 million roster bonus — that would kick in if he’s on the Dolphins’ roster in March.
Typically, cutting your star player is a bad business decision. But in this case, there’s a compelling argument for the Dolphins (1-3) to move on from Hill, rather than cough up a pretty penny for a player who may not even take the field.
Should they make that call, there’s one more factor that could ease Miami’s collective conscience.
Hill smiled, laughed, and clapped while being carted off the field on Monday — Miami coach Mike McDaniel told reporters he was joking with teammates — a stark contrast to the typical reaction from someone who just suffered a season-ending injury.
The response will leave people to speculate that it supports long-circulated rumors that Hill is unhappy in Miami, almost as if he were relieved to never have to play in a Dolphins uniform again.

Hill has not commented on his reaction to the injury. But if he’s truly glad to be off the field, it could clear the path for a mutual divorce.
