First meeting
Kidman and Urban first crossed paths at the G’Day LA gala ball in January 2005.
However, it took four months for the Grammy winner to call the “Practical Magic” star, she revealed during a 2017 interview on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” per Today.com.
Recalling how she believed Urban “wasn’t interested,” Kidman said, “I had such a crush on him.”
At the time, she shared that she and the “Fighter” crooner hadn’t talked about why he waited so long to call.
While chatting on an Australian talk show in 2018, Urban admitted he didn’t think Kidman would “see anything in a guy like [him].”
“But at some point, I plucked up the courage to call those numbers and she answered, and we started talking and we talked and talked and talked and talked and it was effortless,” he said on the “Interview.”
Public debut
Kidman and Urban took their romance public when they attended the Grammy Awards in February 2006.
At the time, they shied away from walking the red carpet with each other but were seen loved-up inside.
Quick engagement
By May 2006, the duo was engaged.
“He’s actually my fiancé,” the “Big Little Lies” star told People at the UNIFEM 30th anniversary gala.
“I wouldn’t be bringing my boyfriend.”
Wedding bells
One month after Kidman and Urban announced their engagement, they tied the knot in the “Nine Perfect Strangers” star’s native Australia in June 2006.
They said “I Do” at a chapel on St. Patrick’s Estate.
Notable attendees included Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe.
Rehab check-in
In October 2006, Urban announced that he would be seeking treatment at the Betty Ford Center, a rehab center for drugs and alcohol in California.
“I deeply regret the hurt this has caused Nicole and the ones that love and support me,” he said in a statement, per CBS News.
“One can never let one’s guard down on recovery, and I’m afraid that I have,” the hitmaker continued. “With the strength and unwavering support I am blessed to have from my wife, family and friends, I am determined and resolved to a positive outcome.”
In September 2007, Kidman got candid about her now-estranged husband’s rehab stay, telling Vanity Fair that she “learned an enormous amount [about] having a relationship with someone who is in recovery.”
“I’m more than willing to walk it with him,” she said. “The two of us are very committed to our relationship.”
Urban told Oprah Winfrey on the latter’s former daytime show in 2010 that Kidman’s support made them stronger as a couple.
“The way in which Nic handled that moment was just perfect … Everything was just designed, I believe, for that moment to fuse us together,” he said, per Us Weekly.
Cheating rumors
While in rehab, model Amanda Wyatt alleged in a scathing interview with the Daily Mail that he had cheated on Kidman “repeatedly” with her leading up to their wedding.
“I feel sorry for Nicole,” she said. “He’s done it once. And he’ll probably do it again.”
Urban’s rep denied the allegations at the time, calling them fiction.
Baby No. 1
Urban and Kidman revealed they were expecting their first child together in January 2008.
“The couple are thrilled,” her rep told People at the time.
They welcomed their first daughter, Sunday Rose, that July.
Baby No. 2
In December 2010, Kidman and Urban shared that they secretly welcomed another daughter, Faith Margaret, through surrogacy.
“Our family is truly blessed, and just so thankful, to have been given the gift of baby Faith Margaret,” the family’s rep told People.
“No words can adequately convey the incredible gratitude that we feel for everyone who was so supportive throughout this process, in particular our gestational carrier.”
Surviving loss
Kidman’s father, Dr. Antony Kidman —a well-known clinical psychologist at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia — died in September 2014 after falling in his hotel room while visiting Kidman’s sister, Antonia, in Singapore.
Urban canceled his tour dates to be with Kidman and she talked about his support.
A month later, Kidman gushed about her husband’s support.
“He’s been amazing to me. I recently lost my father and to have my husband be just step up in that way it makes me cry. He’s amazing,” she said during an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
“To be literally carried by your partner, physically at times because I was so devastated, it’s just like, I’ll do anything for that man,” she added.
Wanting more kids
Kidman said she wished she had more children with Urban in an interview with Vogue published in July 2015.
“I wish I could have met him much earlier and had way more children with him,” she said. “But I didn’t. I mean, if I could have had two more children with him, that would have been just glorious.”
However, Urban disagreed.
“But as Keith says, ‘The wanting mind, Nicole. Shut it down,’” she said.
Viral duet
Fans couldn’t get enough of Kidman and Urban singing his song, “The Fighter,” in their car together, which he posted in May 2016.
Kidman sang Carrie Underwood’s parts in the song, and it’s been viewed over 76 million times.
The key to their marriage
Kidman revealed an important part of their marriage in an interview with W magazine published in January 2025.
“We have a double shower,” the Oscar winner said. “The double-headed shower: key to a successful marriage.”
Kidman noted that having “separate commodes” in their bathroom also helped.
Proud parents
Kidman and Urban supported their daughter Sunday Rose as she made her runway debut at Miu Miu’s spring/summer 2025 Paris Fashion Week show in October 2024.
While the parents were not pictured at the show, Kidman attended a dinner party with her daughter afterward and Sunday told Vogue that they did “some shopping” while in France.
Urban later said of Sunday’s modeling feat in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, “It was great. I thought she did great.”
He also commented on Sunday Rose’s unique accent, which some fans described as “Australian meets Appalachian.”
“She’s just our daughter,” he said.
Beverly Hills burglary
In February 2025, the couple’s $4.7 million home in Beverly Hills, Calif., was burglarized.
The “Babygirl” actress and the country singer were not at their home when the break-in occurred, a source told The Post.
Kidman and Urban also own a $3.4 million mansion in Nashville, two homes in Australia and a $10 million New York City condo, according to Business Insider.
A sore subject
Urban made headlines in July 2025 when he abruptly ended an interview after he was asked about Kidman’s steamy movie scenes.
When the Grammy winner called into Mix 102.3’s “Hayley & Max in the Morning”, hosts Hayley Peterson and Max Burford asked him about her co-starring with Zac Efron in Netflix’s “A Family Affair.”
“What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron having these beautiful love scenes on TV?” Burford asked.
Urban, however, did not reply, before a producer revealed that the songwriter and his team “disconnected from Zoom.”
The producer noted, “I think his team hung up on us because they didn’t want us to ask that question.”
Separation
Page Six confirmed on Sept. 29, 2025 that Urban and Kidman separated after 19 years of marriage.
“Sometimes relationships just run their course,” a source told Page Six, adding that Kidman “did not want the separation and was trying to save things.”
The two had been living apart “since the beginning of summer,” multiple sources told TMZ.
Urban reportedly moved out of the family home in Nashville, Tenn., and bought another one in the same city.
The outlet also reported that Kidman has been caring for their two children: Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, 14.
“[Kidman is] holding the family together through this difficult time since Keith has been gone,” a source said, referring to his current tour.
