Carlos Mendoza’s fate revealed after Mets’ brutal season

Carlos Mendoza will remain the Mets manager for the 2026 season, president of baseball operations David Stearns said Monday.

The Mets lost to the Marlins in Miami on Sunday in the final game of the regular season to miss the playoffs at 83-79, a stunning collapse after the team had the best mark in baseball in mid-June at 45-24.

“I believe Carlos has all the same traits and assets that I believed in when I hired him two years ago,” Stearns said.

“I still believe he’s a very good manager, and I think he’s gonna demonstrate that.”

Stearns also took accountability for the team’s disappointing results.

“I’m the architect of the team. I’m responsible for it,” he said.
