Sydney Sweeney and Britney Spears wear the same metal mesh dress from The Blonds

One glance at Sydney Sweeney’s pics from her space-themed birthday party this past weekend, and millennials all over the world are transported back to 2008.

While Sweeney’s star-studded silver mini dress stuns all on its own, it’s a throwback to Britney Spears’ Circus album era, where she was photographed wearing the exact same dress nearly two decades ago.

The look in question is part of The Blonds’ Spring/Summer 2009 collection, which featured over-the-top glamour, incorporating elements like corsets, glitter, spikes, and intricate embellishments, often with a theatrical or cabaret influence.

The design duo is having quite a week — they also made headlines with Taylor Swift donning a velvet bodysuit in a promo for the Target-exclusive “Crowd Is Your King” “Life of a Showgirl” vinyl release. 

Sweeney’s shoes were by Italian shoe designer Rene Caovilla.

Styled by Molly Dickson, the 28-year-old birthday girl took to Instagram to share a carousel of photos from her party, captioning the post “welcome to planet syd 👽🛸🚀”

The first photo doubles down on the Spears recreation, sitting on one hip, legs tucked beneath her in an identical pose to the original.

What follows is an epic star-studded event, with everyone dressed in space-themed costumes, from aliens to astronauts.

Guests included Wiz Khalifa, Diplo, Glen Powell, and Lauren Sanchez Bezos, to name a few.

The theme seemed on point with her birthday trip to Utah a few weeks ago, where she referenced the location as a “little trip to Mars” on her social media.

While Spears herself was not in attendance, the nod to her early-aughts style was truly out of this world.
