Nick Mohammed Shares His Dream Storyline For Nate, Should He Return The Apple TV+ Series

Before Nick Mohammed starred in Slow Horses Season 5 as Zafar Jaffrey, Mayor of London, he rose to Apple TV+ fame in the beloved Emmy-winning comedy, Ted Lasso, as “Wonder Kid” Nathan Shelley.

After Ted Lasso‘s Season 3 finale saw Ted (Jason Sudeikis) leav AFC Richmond behind and head home to his family in Kansas City, fans feared that the inspirational sports comedy had come to an end. Over two years later, however, production on Ted Lasso Season 4 officially commenced, with OG stars Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift, and Brendan Hunt confirmed to return.

While Ted Lasso Season 4 details are largely under wraps, fans do know that the series filmed several scenes in Kansas City, and that Ted will return to Richmond to coach a second division women’s football team. Though Mohammed can’t confirm whether his character even returns in the new episodes, while chatting Slow Horses with Decider, the actor did graciously share a dream storyline for Nate, as well who he’d like to share more scenes with in the future. So Ted Lasso writers, take note!

“I can’t really speak on it at all, but if I was ever to hypothetically return to the world, I feel like Nate still has some learning to do. And I like the idea that Nate might give something back to the world from which he’s taken so much,” Mohammed mused. “I think he could be a club owner. Nothing Premier League. Something quite low level, almost like a grassroots kind of thing, where he’s giving back to a local club or something.”

After Nate spent a chunk of Season 3 coaching AFC Richmond’s rival, West Ham United, alongside Richmond’s former owner, Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head), he returned to his OG team and made things right in the finale. When we last left Mohammed’s character, he was madly in love with Jade (Edyta Budnik) and BELIEVING in the sport again. So there’s definite potential for Nate to return to the Richmond locker room in Season 4. And if he does appear in the fourth season, Mohammed hopes to share more scenes with someone who isn’t coaching.

“I feel [Nate] and Rebecca are sort of weirdly connected through Rupert, because they were both in his shadow and manipulated by him in various ways. So I feel like Rebecca and Nate do have this sort of odd, unexplored connection,” Mohammed told Decider. “And I’d love to work with Hannah again.”

In addition to Grant Feely, who’s stepping in as Ted’s son, Henry, Apple TV+ confirmed that Ted Lasso Season 4 will introduce several new stars, including Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsey, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, and Abbie Hern. Emmy winner Jack Burditt (Nobody Wants ThisModern Family30 Rock) will serve as an executive producer this season under a new overall deal with Apple TV+. And Sudeikis, Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel are onboard as EPs as well. On top of playing Roy Kent, Goldstein will return as a writer and EP, alongside Leanne Bowen and others. And Bill Lawrence will continue to executive produce via his Doozer Productions.

While early reports claimed OG star Phil Dunster was unable to return in Season 4, a recent video showed bleach-blond Dunster leaving a building in Richmond reportedly close to a Sudeikis, Temple, and Waddingham sighting. So we’re choosing to BELIEVE that Ted Lasso will find a way to reunite us with all of our favorite characters in Season 4, Nate included. And hey, maybe Mohammed’s dream of Nate owning a club can serve as some inspo for Season 5 (or beyond)! In the meantime, you can catch Mohammed on new episodes of Slow Horses.
