Mickelson shot down that notion before it even rose to the status of a rumor on Sunday.
“No rumors,” Mickelson posted on X in response to a Golf.com post noting the idea. “My Ryder Cup involvement is over. I’m happy being a spectator and rooting for Team USA.”
Given how things are going for Team USA at this year’s Ryder Cup, no one can be blamed for looking ahead two years and throwing out ideas on how things can improve.

The Americans were blown off the course at Bethpage Black over the first two days of the competition, taking an 11.5-4.5 deficit into Sunday’s singles play.
That left Europe needing just three points out of Sunday to clinch a second consecutive Ryder Cup and become the first team to win on opposing soil since doing so at Medinah in 2012.
American captain Keegan Bradley’s decisions have generally backfired, including leaving himself off the team — a noble gesture, but one that now looks to have been misguided.

Mickelson holds the record for the most matches played at the Ryder Cup at 47, having participated in the competition 12 times in total with an 18-22-7 record. His 21.5 Ryder Cup points are an American record at the competition, though Mickelson also holds the record for most losses.
Given Mickelson’s role in LIV Golf, a potential Ryder Cup captaincy could come with some controversy anyway, even after there’s been some reconciliation between the PGA Tour and the Saudi upstart.
