Third NYC staffer under investigation for sexual misconduct at same school: sources

A third staffer at a lower Manhattan high school where at least two others were investigated for having sex with students has been suspended without pay as officials probe similar disturbing claims, The Post has learned.

The 36-year-old aide, a city Department of Education community associate, began working at the embattled Urban Assembly Early College High School of Emergency Medicine in 2017, and was accused last year of sexual misconduct involving a female student, a school insider said. The allegations have not been substantiated in public reports, and the aide has not been criminally charged.

The girl is an immigrant from Spain who speaks little English, sources said. Her age could not be ascertained.

The alleged abuse came to light after the girl’s mother read text messages from the staffer and alerted school officials.

The aide is the third since 2023 at the school — located in the Murry Bergtraum building next to NYPD headquarters — to come under scrutiny by the Special Commissioner of Investigation for city schools. Calling it “an active case,” the SCI declined to give details.

Ocean Valentine, a former aide at the school, had sex with a 17-year-old male student in May 2022, SCI found.

Valentine, 22 at the time, had sex with the teen at least three times during school lunch breaks, the probe found. The DOE fired her in 2023.  Valentine has not been criminally charged.

Another school aide remains under investigation related to alleged sex with a female student — and is accused of stealing $5,000 the teen had received, sources told The Post.

Security escorted him out of the building after the female student came forward this year, the source said. The DOE confirmed it has suspended the aide without pay pending the probe. The aide has not been criminally charged.

The DOE did not return a request for comment.

One such case — let alone three — is horrifying, parents said.

“I have to wonder how they vet the people who work in our schools,” the mom of a student at another Manhattan high school told The Post. “These things should not be happening. That’s a line that can’t be crossed. We need to do a better job to make sure these people who take care of our kids in a position of trust are vetted.”
