Is Smoke Based On A True Story?

Though the Apple TV+ series was absolutely inspired by a true story, Lehane admittedly took a lot of creative liberties when adapting it, so a number of characters and storylines stray from actual events. That said, Apple TV+ notes: “The fictional series is inspired by truth.media’s acclaimed “Firebug” podcast, which was hosted by the Oscar and Emmy-winning Kary Antholis, who executive produces for Crime Story Media, LLC.” If you want to go into the series spoiler-free, however, definitely wait to listen to/learn more about that podcast.
