Paige Spiranac backs Bryson DeChambeau after golf pundit’s Ryder Cup jab

Golf influencer Paige Spiranac defended Bryson DeChambeau after Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee ripped the American star while on-air at the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Earlier this week, Brandel said he was disappointed that DeChambeau wanted to talk about his YouTube channel instead of the tournament, which got underway Friday at Bethpage Black in New York.

The golf pundit threw out a few insults, saying that DeChambeau is an “odd duck” who will be “difficult” to be paired with because he’s a captain’s nightmare. Brandel added that DeChambeau’s “dubious” YouTube metrics came from bots.

Spiranac took exception to Chamblee’s choice words about DeChambeau.

“Brandel saying Bryson is a ‘captain’s nightmare’ is such a weird take,” Spiranac wrote on X. “He’s the perfect person for this type of team event. He gets the people going! Will be fun to watch his matches this week.”

Spiranac added that Chamblee blocked her on X.

“He’s trying to drum up some interest for himself,” said Chamblee, who has been critical of DeChambeau since he left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in 2022. “He didn’t talk about playing on a team and how much that meant, nope he didn’t do that.

“What he did do was talk about his YouTube channel, which you know, if we want to talk about the numbers are generated from that, it’s pretty dubious. I have no doubt that bots are generating a lot of those views. There may be some interest as well, but that’s what he wants to talk about – not the team, not the Ryder Cup.

“It’s one of the reasons why I think he’s going to be such a difficult person to get paired with. No doubt he’s one hell of a golfer, no doubt he has his moments of generosity with fans, I’ve heard about them. But he’s an odd duck. He’s trying to blend in with the team. He has so many potential bulletin board mistakes and I think he would be a captain’s nightmare.”

DeChambeau, 32, is making his third Ryder Cup appearance with an overall record of 2-3-1.

DeChambeau and Team USA got off to a strong start Friday with his booming first shot.

Outside of the sport, the American pro is known for his massive online presence, especially his YouTube channel, which has 2.43 million subscribers.
