Although the “Star Trek” icon, 94, later clarified that he “overindulged” and joked that the “rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated,” he still thanked his fans for expressing their concerns.

Besides starring as Captain James T. Kirk in “Star Trek” from 1966 to 1969 and in seven sequel films, the beloved actor portrayed the titular police sergeant T.J. Hooker from 1982 to 1986 and eccentric attorney Denny Crane in “Boston Legal” from 2004 to 2008.

After writing several books about his experiences on the sets of “Star Trek,” the Emmy winner made a real-life voyage to space in October 2021. At the time, he was the oldest person to ever do it at age 90.

Here is a look at Shatner’s life so far through the years, from his early days commanding the USS Enterprise as Captain Kirk to nearly reaching the stars aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space shuttle.
