“My mom’s the most supportive person in the world,” Pete shared. “And it got to a point where she called me when I was in rehab and she was like, ‘My biggest fear is that I will turn on the news and I’ll see that my son has died.’”
The comedian — who checked into rehab at least twice last year due to mental health issues — described his mom as being someone who “wants to always have positivity around.”
“That killed me,” Pete said. “So I was like, ‘Alright, can’t die until she’s dead.’”
Pete, 31, also explained that he didn’t want his mother to have to experience more heartbreak after his dad, Scott Davidson, died while serving as a New York City firefighter during the September 11 terrorist attacks.
“I’d have to be a f–king sociopath to not get my s–t together,” he said.
Pete — who has been sober for more than a year — said that his mom and so many of his loved ones have stood by him through his struggles.
“Anybody that’s actually loved me and cared about me has gotten the worst wrath from me,” he said. “Like, ‘F–k you, leave me. Go ahead, leave me.’”
However, his family and friends never abandoned him — despite his “deranged” behavior.
“I was like, ‘Oh s–t you’re calling my bluff,’” he recalled. “And I love you and I don’t want you to go away.”
Amy and her heroic late husband also shared daughter Casey, 28, and the Davidson family is continuing to grow now that Pete’s girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, is pregnant and expecting a child with the actor.
“Thank God I’m sober and where I am,” Pete said, noting, “I’m very grateful that it happened now and with Elsie.”
Pete also said that there would be “no f–king way” it would have been “possible” to have a kid if he didn’t get clean.
The couple confirmed that they were expecting a child in July, with Hewitt writing on Instagram, “welp now everyone knows we had sex.”
“Pete is so excited for this next chapter,” a source told Page Six at the time. “His family is thrilled and can’t wait to become grandparents, aunts, etc.”
The Playboy model, 29, and Pete confirmed their relationship in March when they stepped out for a PDA-packed vacation in Florida. They then went Instagram-official shortly after.
The “King of Staten Island” star previously had relationships with several A-list celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Emily Ratajkowski, Kaia Gerber and Phoebe Dynevor.
Meanwhile, Hewitt’s roster of exes includes “Ted Lasso” star Jason Sudeikis and Selena Gomez’s fiancé Benny Blanco.
