Terry Bradshaw gives brutal assessment of Steelers

One Steelers great is doubting the greatness of the current roster and, in no uncertain terms, opined exactly how he feels about the state of the team. 

Terry Bradshaw shared his thoughts in an interview with USA Today, stating at one point that “they don’t have the team.” 

“They’re always competitive, but they’re past being a contender,” Bradshaw, who won four Super Bowls with the Steelers in his playing days, said. “They’re not a contender. They’re just not. From what I’ve seen, they’re not a contender. And they haven’t been in a while. They haven’t been a contender in five years.”

The Steelers have regularly made the postseason, but it has been almost a decade since the franchise won a playoff game, when Pittsburgh toppled the Dolphins and Chiefs during the postseason in 2017 before losing to the Patriots in the AFC Championship game. 

Pittsburgh is off to a 2-1 start this season with wins over the Jets and Patriots. But it hasn’t been enough to convince Bradshaw. 

“They don’t have the team. It takes offense, defense, takes it all. Takes coaching, Bradshaw said. 

And Bradshaw has not been the only former Steelers franchise QB to take aim at his former team.

Ben Roethlisberger was also not short on criticisms of the team during the “Footbahlin’” podcast. He even suggested that a loss could be on the horizon when they travel to Ireland to face the Vikings. 

“If I say that I think we’re gonna get outcoached, is that controversial? I’ll say this: I think Brian Flores is a very good defensive coordinator. I think coach Kevin O’Connell is an exceptional offensive mind,” Roethlisberger said. “They’re going to find ways to try and exploit our defense.”
