The 57-year-old reportedly wanted “the people he works with [to] have some time to figure out their next steps.”

The insider claimed that while Kimmel “might not be leaving ABC now, he will once his contract is up [in 2026] unless they offer him a boatload of money.”

If it wasn’t for his team, the Daytime Emmy winner allegedly “wanted to leave ABC and expected not to be coming back at all.”

Kimmel’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

The comedian’s show, which premiered in 2003, was “pre-empted indefinitely” last week following Kimmel’s monologue regarding Charlie Kirk’s death.

TV station conglomerate Nexstar Media “strongly object[ed]” to his comments, which included claims that “the MAGA gang [were] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.”

Kimmel subsequently received a slew of support from his fellow late-night hosts, as well as 400 celebs condemning his suspension as a “dark moment for freedom of speech.”

Howard Stern joined the Disney+ subscribers who boycotted the network by canceling their subscriptions in protest.

News broke Monday that Kimmel’s show will return in the wake of “thoughtful conversations” — but Sinclair Broadcast Group, who owns several ABC affiliate stations, will continue to pre-empt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” with news programming.

Kimmel has yet to speak out regarding the scandal.

The Daily Mail reported Monday that while staffers don’t know what Kimmel is planning for Tuesday’s monologue, he is “not going to roll over and just take it” since “the last week has made his balls bigger.”

The outlet claimed he is expected “to come out swinging.”
