Stefanik, a Republican, and relatives purchased the property in 2010 for about $1.2 million, four years before she became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress at age 30.

“I haven’t really made that decision,” she said of her future in the District. “I’ve gotta make the governor decision first.”

Currently, she does not plan to buy another DC property once this one sells.

The roughly 2,700-square-foot home features an open main floor, a large walk-in closet in the primary suite, and a back deck and patio for entertaining.

Stefanik, who enjoys cooking, said she picked the house because the kitchen connects to the living and dining areas, allowing her to prepare “Sunday sauce” without missing family conversations.

“One thing people may not know about me is that I love to cook. I come from a family of cooks,” she told the Journal.

They grew tomatoes and hosted family for cookouts, Stefanik said of the townhouse, which is located a block from Eastern Market, where she often buys groceries from the Italian butcher and the local cheese shop.

She and her husband, Matthew Manda, now spend more time in upstate New York, where their 4-year-old son, Sam, attends school and where the family maintains a 16-acre farm in Saratoga County.

Micah Smith of HRLS Partners at TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, one of the listing agents, highlighted the rarity of a walk-in closet on Capitol Hill. He and colleagues Robert Hryniewicki, Adam Rackliffe and Christopher Leary are marketing the home.

According to Bright MLS, the median home sale in the DC metro area reached $625,000 in August, a 2.1% increase from a year earlier.

Stefanik has drawn national attention in recent years for challenging Ivy League presidents on their handling of pro-Palestinian campus protests, and was briefly nominated by President Donald Trump in 2024 to serve as US ambassador to the United Nations before the nomination was withdrawn.

She said she will likely announce her gubernatorial plans after the November elections.
