Charlie Sheen was cut off by the Mexican cartel over his massive cocaine consumption
An Australian reporter was taken aback by one bombshell confession from Charlie Sheen on 60 Minutes Sunday night.
The actor, 60, sat down with Channel 9 journalist Amelia Adams on the current affairs program as he hits the publicity trail for his new tell-all memoir, The Book of Sheen, and Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen.
The former Two and a Half Men star revealed, at the height of his drug use, he was cut off from his drug supply by a Mexican cartel.
“The cartel cut you off?” a stunned Adams asked.
“They did,” Sheen answered. “They had never seen someone acquiring that kind of weight, you know, and so the only other people that they were delivering that kind of weight to were dealers, and they thought I was dealing on the side.”
Adams then asked Sheen if rumours he once smoked “7g of crack cocaine” in one sitting were true.
“Well, we never like took one out of the pipe and put it on a scale,” he said.
“However, yeah, that was the amount that was cooked to get it into that form. I remember at one point the Jaws moment, ‘Uh, we’re going to need a bigger pipe.’”
Sheen giggled, adding, “It’s kind of funny, no?”
Adams met the star with laughter, replying, “It is funny, but it’s also, you are lucky to be alive.”
Sheen, once the highest paid actor on TV earning $1.8 million per episode on the comedy sitcom Two and a Half Men, was sensationally axed by Warner Bros and CBS in 2011 after a string of public outbursts.
Most notably, he lashed out at the show’s executive producer Chuck Lorre, whom he’s since mended bridges with.
Among the sprays, Sheen told TMZ in February 2011 he “violently hated” Lorre, dubbing him “a stupid, stupid little man” before proceeding to challenge him to a fight.
Sheen, who is now eight years sober, told Channel 9 he “regrets” how his eight-year stint on the series ended.
“It was an imperfect storm of way too much stuff going on behind the scenes in my personal life. And I had back-to-back failed marriages. And then in the middle of all that, [I was] still trying to be front and center for my children, you know,” he said.
“I went through two divorces and had four children in an eight-year run on that show.”
Elsewhere, he opened up about his series of salacious book revelations, including that he had previously slept with men.
Sheen said it was liberating to unveil that secret, after revealing he was being extorted by multiple sexual partners for up to “seven-figure” sums.
“I just wanted to feel what it would be like to just expose that. Not expose that, but to share that and it’s fine,” he said.
“But it was also to take the bullets out of some guns that have still been pointed in my direction. And just like say, ‘You no longer have any control over me with your extortion demands’.”
