Officers with the Columbus Division of Police in Ohio responded to reports of an assault at a gas station around 1:20 a.m. Saturday.
Police found the victim unconscious with multiple blunt force trauma injuries. They were taken to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in critical condition.
Hall was identified on surveillance footage allegedly showing him “forcibly” dragging a passenger out of the car before repeatedly punching them in the face, cops said.
The college athlete got back into his car and started to drive off, seemingly ditching the beaten victim at the gas station, before he put the car in park and walked back over to wail on the victim a few more times as they staggered to their feet.
The victim was knocked flat on the ground and slammed their head against the pavement before going still, according to the video.
Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, homicide detectives were brought on to investigate.
The former Buckeye flashed a wide smile in his mugshot photo, his eyes half-lidded as he cocked his head to the side.
Hall was the running back for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2009 to 2013. He even rose to serve as team captain during his senior year in 2012, but was medically redshirted after a foot injury landed him on the bench for the bulk of the season.
He was hailed as a multi-purpose linchpin on the team and set a personal career high of a 159-yard rush during one of his first games of his redshirt season, but never made any headway towards an NFL career.
Hall graduated after his final season with a degree in finance and financial management service, according to his LinkedIn. He’s skipped around careers over the years and currently works for a management company in the building maintenance industry.
He also owns a small real estate company that he endeavors to grow into “one of the largest real estate portfolios in the Midwest,” according to his LinkedIn.
Hall is set to appear in court on Monday.
