Jayden Reed exits early with shoulder injury in Packers worry

Packers receiver Jayden Reed was ruled out in the middle of Thursday’s game against the Commanders with a shoulder injury, Green Bay announced.

Reed, 25, suffered the injury while catching a deep pass in the end zone early in the first quarter, though a flag on the play negated the reception.

After falling hard on his right shoulder, Reed was slow to get up. The team initially said his return was questionable before ruling him out shortly before the third quarter.

Reed has previously injured his right shoulder, having dislocated it during Green Bay’s wild card loss against the Eagles last season.

The Michigan State alum luckily avoided surgery and made a full recovery ahead of OTA’s this summer.

Reed’s shoulder injury also comes as he is playing through a Jones fracture in his left foot that he suffered during practice in August.

“I just cut wrong off my foot and [it’s] just a little sore,” Reed said last month.

The wide receiver opted against surgery and took three weeks off from practice in August to recover, telling reporters that he knew he was not at full strength ahead of Week 1.

“I mean, I’m working through it,” Reed told reporters then. “I didn’t feel 100 percent today, but it felt great to be out there, I’ll tell you that.”

He had three catches — including a touchdown — in a Week 1 win over the Lions.

Reed was arguably the most valuable receiver for the Packers last season, with the 2023 second-round pick notching 857 receiving yards and six touchdowns while appearing in all 17 games.

“Anytime I’m out there, it’s a joy. So just to be back out there with my guys, it felt great,” Reed said. “Obviously, I didn’t do the whole practice. I’m still working through some things.

“[But] I’m just trusting the process, following the protocol and trying to be the best I can be with where I’m at.”
