Sky reflect on Angel Reese’s ‘bittersweet’ season
CHICAGO — Angel Reese’s tumultuous sophomore season in the WNBA came to a close Thursday with her sitting on the bench for the Liberty-Sky regular-season finale.
It also may have marked the end of Reese’s reign in Chicago.

Reese has been under fire for comments she made to the Chicago Tribune.
The former LSU forward expressed frustration with the franchise and its future and said, in part, “I’m not settling for the same s–t we did this year.”
“We have to get great players,” she continued. “That’s a non-negotiable for me.”

Reese name-dropped some of her teammates in the locker room, which prompted a team meeting.
She received a half-game suspension after publicly apologizing to her teammates, though she hasn’t played since because of a back injury.
Asked pregame whether Tyler Marsh saw Reese having a future in Chicago, the Sky coach said, “Sure.”
His one-word response didn’t inspire much confidence.
Reese, a two-time All-Star, was limited to 30 games because of injury.
She posted a career-high 14.7 points and, for the second consecutive season, led the league in rebounds, averaging 12.6.
Overall, Marsh said Reese’s 2025 campaign has been “bittersweet.”

“There’s been a ton of growth areas, from my perspective, on Angel, especially on the court,” Marsh said. “We’ve been able to see her playmaking ability in so many different aspects this year. Her versatility defensively is another area we’ve assigned her to a bunch of different matchups throughout this year and she’s taken that head on as well. So on both sides of the ball, there’s been a ton of growth from there and she’s just not even scratching the surface on who she can be in this league for a long time to come.”
It’s unclear what the future holds for Reese and the Sky.
Chicago picked her seventh in the 2024 draft and established her as a franchise cornerstone.
Reese still has two years left on her rookie deal before becoming a restricted free agent.
But it’s possible Reese has played her final game in a Sky uniform.
