McAvoy was caught off guard by the punch, which was reportedly thrown by an intoxicated patron.

“James was having a casual get-together with the producers of his movie and, as he later learned when speaking with the staff, there was a man who drank too much who was getting escorted out,” a source close to McAvoy told the outlet.

The source continued, “James’ back was to him and the man just punched him.”

The “X-Men: First Class” star reportedly tried to de-escalate the situation and was unbothered. He stayed at the bar even after the incident and laughed it off.

Both McAvoy’s rep and Charlotte’s Room didn’t immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

The Scottish actor was in town for the Toronto International Film Festival. He and his wife, Lisa Liberati, attended the world premiere of “California Schemin’” on Saturday.

McAvoy directed the film, which tells the real-life story of Silibil N’Brains, a Scottish hip-hop duo who pretended to be American in order to be taken seriously by the record industry.

He also has a small part in the musical biographical film, which is based on Silibil N’ Brains member Gavin Bain’s 2011 autobiography, “Straight Outta Scotland: A True Story of Fakery, Money and Betrayal in the Music Industry.”

McAvoy revealed he secretly married Liberati, who hails from Philadelphia, back in 2022.

They met on the set of M. Night Shyamalan’s 2016 horror-thriller “Split,” when she was working as the director’s personal assistant and began dating a couple years later.

They welcomed a son in 2022. McAvoy also has a son, Brendan, with his ex-wife, Anne-Marie Duff.
