Ahead of this season, both the Associated Press and AFCA Coaches Poll ranked Steve Sarkisian’s squad No. 1 for the first time in the university’s history. This is largely due to the team’s deep roster featuring junior running back Quintrevion Wisner, sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wingo, junior tight end Jack Endris (who just transferred from Cal) and junior cornerback Malik Muhammad.

“If you talk to any of our players, or you just listen to their discussions … our players are talking about national championship,” Sarkisian told The Athletic this past spring. “They’re not talking about a rebuild. They’re not talking about, ‘Well, we’ll see how this goes.’ There’s a standard here. There’s an expectation, and they understand that they’re held to the standard.”

In order to get to the summit — they haven’t won the National Championship since Vince Young led the way in 2005 —  the squad has their work cut out for them.

First up will be their biggest test when they take on the reigning champion Ohio State Buckeyes on the road at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 30. This game will be a rematch of last year’s aforementioned Cotton Bowl where the Longhorns fell 28-14.

After that, they’ll return to their home Texas Memorial Stadium (ya, know, DKR) in Austin where they’ll take on major opponents like the Vanderbilt Commodores (Nov. 1), Arkansas Razorbacks (Nov. 22) and Texas A&M Aggies (Nov. 28) in the annual Lone Star Showdown.

If you want to be there, tickets are available for all 2025 home games.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we could find on tickets for any one gridiron battle in Austin was $64 including fees on Vivid Seats.

Other home games start anywhere from $69 to $540 including fees.

Texas Longhorns news

Hype for Arch Manning is out of control coming into the regular season.

Cooper’s son, who served as the backup to Quinn Ewers the past two years, will finally take the spotlight and control of the Longhorns come opening day. All eyes will be on the 21-year-old. Comparisons to his uncles Peyton and Eli are inevitable.

“It is an incredible amount of pressure for a kid who has taken a grand total of 250 snaps in his college career,” The Post reported. “…yet, there isn’t a more intriguing player in the country, the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.”
