‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Season 3, Episode 8’s Final Scene Has Fans Howling: “You’re A Mastermind, Jenny Han!”
Week after week, The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 brings fan-favorite moments from Jenny Han’s bestselling books to life. And while Season 3, Episode 8 is no exception, with only a few pages in Book 3 left and three whole episodes remaining in the series, things are about to become entirely unpredictable for fans.
While so much of the eventful episode, “Last Kiss,” was adapted straight from Han’s text, there were also some noteworthy changes that took fans by surprise — none of which were more shocking than that jaw-dropping final scene.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Episode 8 spoilers ahead.
After Conrad’s (Christopher Briney) emotional love confession to Belly (Lola Tung) last week, TSITP Season 3, Episode 8 picked up ahead of Belly and Jeremiah’s (Gavin Casalegno) wedding. During another crucial Bonrad confrontation, Belly shut Connie down again and the rehearsal dinner went on as planned. After Belly came clean and told Jere everything the night before their nuptials, however, he disappeared on their wedding day, so Conrad set out to find him and make things right. The brothers finally aired it all out. Jere punched Conrad, while Conrad admitted he knew about Cabo and still loved Belly. In an effort to support Jere, Conrad gave his brother the letter Susannah wrote him for his wedding day, only for the boys to learn that the letters were accidentally swapped. Instead of his own letter, Jere received Susannah’s message for Conrad, which gushed over his and Belly’s love for each other and sent Jere spiraling.
Just like in the book, Conrad said an emotional goodbye to Belly and apologized for hurting her. “I’m not gonna stay for the wedding. I’m just gonna take off now,” he said. “I won’t see you for a long time, and that’s probably for the best. It hurts. Being near you like this. And Jere, he’s the one that needs you right now. I need you to know that whatever happens, it was worth it to me. Being with you, loving you. It was all worth it. I wish you guys the best. Be good to each other.”
When Jere returned, for a moment, it seemed like the wedding might still be on. But when he asked Belly if she still loved Conrad and she said yes, Jere decided he couldn’t go through with it. (He also admitted he found out about Conrad and Belly’s Christmas together ahead of Spring Break, which is why, uh, Cabo! Ick!) “You can’t marry me to erase him,” Jere told Belly. “I don’t know how to not love you. Even now. And that’s the worst part.”
In a departure from the books, after they called off the wedding, Taylor Swift’s “cardigan” played, Belly processed the crushing break-up, packed a bag, and headed to the airport. She used the gift card her mom gave her for her honeymoon to buy a ticket to Paris, but just as she was about to board her flight, she turned her head and saw him: Conrad Beck Fisher. He didn’t see her. He looked lost and shattered as he sat, waiting for a flight back to Boston. As Swift’s lyrics mirrored, they found their way back to each other, just like Belly always thought. (BRB, SOBBING!)
As she processed the sign of fate and stepped towards her first love in slow motion (as Taylor Swift sang “I knew you’d come back to me,” mind you!), The Summer I Turned Pretty faded to black and fans were left to lose their freaking minds.
Why I’m Convinced The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s Season 3, Episode 8 Airport Scene Easter Egg Confirms Belly/Conrad Endgame
The airport scene is a surprising, breathtaking, heartwarming addition to Han’s story, and the possibilities will have fans’ minds furiously racing ahead of Season 3, Episode 9. But if you’re looking for another post-Jeremiah sign that Belly and Conrad are, in fact, endgame — even though there are three whole episodes left in the series, I’ve got you covered!
Jenny Han, queen of Easter eggs, reassures us in this very scene that Belly and Conrad are meant to be forever. For infinity. How? Right before Belly sees Conrad, she arrives at her flight’s gate, and the absolute millisecond that she did I freaking clocked it: Gate C83. To the healthy, untrained eye, that gate might not seem significant. But to the deeply unwell, hopeless romantic obsessing over TSITP week after week like it’s my job, because it literally is, that’s Jenny telling us clear as day: Conrad and Belly for infinity. (C = Conrad, 8 = infinity sign, 3 = The number that most closely resembles a B, for Belly.)
Technically, we still have three episodes left. But after Season 3, Episode 8’s final scene, plus a running list of other Belly/Conrad endgame hints, I personally can’t imagine Team Conrad not sobbing happy tears at the end of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3.
New episodes of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 premiere Wednesdays on Prime Video.
