Taylor Swift was ‘getting antsy’ for engagement, Travis Kelce’s dad says
Taylor Swift was eagerly awaiting Travis Kelce’s proposal, the NFL star’s dad, Ed Kelce, revealed.
On Tuesday, Ed confirmed Page Six’s exclusive reporting that Travis and Swift got engaged almost two weeks ago, sharing that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end almost delayed the proposal even though Ed and Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, told him not to.

“He was going to put it off till this week,” Ed told Cleveland’s ABC News 5. “I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.”
“And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you,” he added.
Ed said he already knew Travis was planning to propose months in advance, noting that he’s never seen his youngest son happier.
“We actually went to a thing in [Kansas City] Sunday night, which was an ESPN airing of ‘The Kingdom’ and … his mother and I went with him back to his house for dinner, where Taylor made dinner, and we had a wonderful dinner with them outside on the patio and to just watch the two of them, just crazy about each other, it’s truly kinda neat,” Ed shared.
The couple announced their engagement Tuesday with a joint Instagram post of romantic pictures from the proposal.
Even though Ed told the local outlet that Travis popped the question in a garden in Lee’s Summit, Mo., Page Six exclusively confirmed that the tight end got down on one knee in the backyard of his home in Leawood, Kan.
Ed bluntly credited Taylor for Travis’ happiness while speaking to People at “The Kingdom” premiere Sunday.
“There’s no question about it,” Ed said, adding, “They’re two people obviously very much in love.”

Travis echoed his father’s sentiment in his recent GQ interview, noting of himself and the “Blank Space” singer, “When there is not a camera on us, we’re just two people that are in love.”
“It can be perceived as something else because of how much it is talked about, and how much we are tracked whenever we do go out,” he continued.
“But I would say that it’s as normal of … it happened very organically, even though from a media standpoint it was being tracked. It still happened very organically.”
