The 22-year-old made just two starts for Triple-A Syracuse — in which he did not surrender a run — before getting the call to join a Mets staff that already includes promising rookie Nolan McLean.
The Mets are amid a stretch of 16 games in 16 days and Tong will get the ball Friday against the Marlins.
Tong, whose unique delivery has drawn comparisons to Tim Lincecum, owns a 1.43 ERA in 22 minor league starts this year.
