Atlanta is coming off a unique defeat at the hands of the mighty Detroit Lions; head coach Raheem Morris opted to sit all of his offensive starters — including Michael Penix Jr. and Kirk Cousins — and let 29-year-old Easton Stick take snaps. He held his own in a close 17-10 loss that was cut short by a fourth-quarter injury to Detroit defensive back Morice Norris.
On Tennessee’s end, they suffered a 29-7 blowout against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. No. 1 draft pick Cam Ward completed five of eight passes for 67 yards; Calvin Ridley snagged three passes for 50 yards.
Interestingly enough, the two clubs got in a brawl at a joint practice the Wednesday before the game. Penix Jr. tossed a TD pass to Ray-Ray McCloud III and players from both squads ended up dueling.
“I don’t know where I was at in it,” Atlanta’s quarterback told ESPN. “It was a lot of people. I knew I was down there somewhere. I wasn’t the only one, though.” He will likely sit out this Saturday’s game. As of now, there’s no word on who will start.
