Love, 26, “shouldn’t miss any regular-season time,” Gutekunst said, and he could be back at practice next week.

Love’s thumb got hit by a helmet during the Packers’ preseason loss to the Jets on Saturday at Lambeau Field at the end of his second series.

He practiced Monday before getting the surgery Tuesday.

“Obviously, you guys saw him out there, he certainly was able to function,” Gutekunst told reporters. “But as we looked at all the options and he did as well, the best option I think for him to get back the fastest and feel the best was to do this. He wanted to go out there [Monday] to kind of see how it felt, and once we got through that, we made the decision.”

Love has led the Packers to playoff berths in each of his two seasons as their starting quarterback after the team moved on from Aaron Rodgers.

In 15 games last season, Love had 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Green Bay fell to the eventual Super Bowl-champion Eagles in the wild-card round, 22-10.

Love has roughly three-and-a-half weeks to get ready for the Packers’ season opener on Sept. 7 at home against the Lions.

Malik Willis, the 2022 Titans third-round pick whom the Packers acquired from Tennessee before the start of last season, is Green Bay’s No. 2 quarterback, with 2023 fifth-round pick Sean Clifford at No. 3 on the depth chart and undrafted rookie Taylor Elgersma at No. 4.
