Jessica Alba, Lizzy Mathis Tell Jenna Bush Hager What To Expect When Raising Teens: “It’s Awful”

Jessica Alba and Lizzy Mathis stopped by Today With Jenna & Friends to promote their new Roku Channel show Honest Renovations, but they couldn’t leave without imparting some parenting wisdom on Jenna Bush Hager and Today guest host Erin Andrews.

Bush Hager asked Alba and Mathis what she should expect “on the teen front” now that her daughter is 12 years old.

“Oh, it’s awful. It’s not great,” Alba quickly responded. “Yeah, it’s not fun.”

Mathis said raising teenagers can be a very eye-opening experience. “I always want them to tell me everything, but when they tell you everything, its like woah eyes opened,” she said, as Alba noted teens will give you “so many details,” – whether you want them or not.

“It takes you back to when you were a teenager. You really have to check yourself,” Mathis continued.

Alba said it was surprising to see “how early hanging out with boys, and feelings and partying” begins for teenagers nowdays. Alba’s daughters – Honor, 17, and Haven, 14, – are both in high school.

“My other one is going to be a senior and Haven is going to start high school and I hate it,” she confessed. “I look at baby pictures of her and little baby videos and send them to her just to remind her this is how I see her.”

Alba and Mathis told Bush Hager that they met when their children were in pre-school. Now, the ladies are co-hosts of the Roku Channel original series Honest Renovations, in which they help families renovate their homes and tackle the challenges of parenting.

Season 3 will premiere on The Roku Channel Thursday, Aug. 14.

Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
