Liberty, NYPD investigating sex toy thrown at Barclays Center

The Liberty and the New York Police Department are investigating an incident at Tuesday’s game at Barclays Center during which a person seemingly attempted to throw a sex toy on the court but instead startled a young fan, a team spokesperson told The Post Thursday.

The lime green dildo — which resembles other objects thrown during at least four other WNBA games in recent weeks — landed at the feet of a young girl in section 116, who was attending the Liberty’s game against the Wings with her mother, according to a fan who witnessed the event.

“The object was thrown from someone much higher up but definitely in the same section,” a fan, who was also in section 116, texted The Post. “When it landed, the girl started screaming/freaking out (understandably) for like 30 [seconds] and got the attention of most people within the surrounding rows.”

The young fan who was nearly hit by the object was seated near the visiting team’s tunnel where some arena security was stationed. The mom and her daughter spoke to several security guards, who assured them they would pull camera footage to figure out who tossed it.

“It was pretty chaotic,” the fan said. “I know a worker grabbed the item through the railing.”

The Liberty declined to share any further comment other than the confirm an investigation remains ongoing.

An NBA security professional in New York told The Post, “This is new, and the league is trying to find out where this is originating from and what’s the meaning of why it’s being done. And they’re going to come up with a strategy to try to eliminate it from the game altogether because it’s not needed. It’s not helping the game.”

A group of cryptocurrency traders has claimed responsibility for the incidents, per multiple reports.

The NBA security professional didn’t have exact details of Tuesday’s incident but said mitigating threats is the security team’s top priority.

“Everybody wants to hide things. You can’t hide things,” they said. “You’ve got to put it out there.”
