The show was often maligned and seen by some as inferior to its predecessor, “Sex and the City.”

In a statement released on Friday, King shared that as he was writing the last episode, “it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop” the “SATC” revival series.

He also explained that he and the show’s star, Sarah Jessica Parker, had delayed announcing the news “because we didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season.”

King ended the statement, which was shared as a joint post on the show and HBO Max’s accounts, with a message of thanks.

Parker, 60, who has played Carrie Bradshaw on and off since 1998, posted a video reel of Carrie through the years.

Alongside it, she wrote a heartfelt extended caption noting that Bradshaw “devoted herself to hats, books, shoes, friends and the promise of a new day in her beloved city and the people she treasured most. She has worn shame, pride, honor, optimism and literally countless dresses, skirts, tutus.”

The actress noted that the now iconic character “has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years” and confessed that “I have loved her most of all.”

She added, “The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all.”

Parker went on to call “AJLT,” “all joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent of 380 that includes all the brilliant actors who joined us. I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be forever before I forget. The whole thing. Thank you all.”

In a post on her Instagram Stories, Kristin Davis shared King’s statement and wrote: “I am profoundly sad,” she wrote. “I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love.”

Cynthia Nixon did not comment but did share the statement on her Instagram Stories.

The first season of “And Just Like That” was billed as a one-off miniseries. However, a second season was ordered up soon after its February 2022 finale.

It followed the travails of Parker, Davis and Nixon’s characters as they navigated more serious topics like death, alcoholism, gender and aging.

Noticeably absent was Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones, in the original series. Cattrall did appear in a brief cameo in the second season.

This season has seen Bradshaw break up with her boyfriend, Aidan Shaw, played by John Corbett.

The sometimes controversial series received mixed reviews. It came under a storm of criticism in Season 1 for the inclusion of Che, a non-binary character, played by Sara Ramirez, who was later written off.

Fans were also irked by a script blunder this season when Lisa Todd Wexley’s (Nicole Ari Parker) father seemingly died twice.

The finale of “And Just Like That…” will premiere Aug. 14 on Max.
