The Twins had been expected to be sellers at the trade deadline with six pending free agents this upcoming offseason, with Paddack among the list of them.
The righty is in the midst of a solid season in which he has made every one of his starts.
In 111 innings pitched, Paddack has a 4.95 ERA and 85 strikeouts. He’s started 21 games and holds a 3-9 record with the Twins this season.
The addition of Paddack should help them fill the gap felt by the loss of Jackson Jobe, who tore his UCL earlier this season.
Paddack joins a Tigers’ rotation that includes Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty, Reese Olson and Casey Mize.

Heyman also reported that the Rays, who are three games back of a wild card, were also in on Paddack prior to the trade to Detroit.
USA Today reported that the Yankees had been in on the right-hander as well.
The Tigers are holding an eight-game lead in the American League Central as they look to make a deep run in the playoffs this fall.
The Twins, on the other hand, have been fading from the playoff picture and seem to be firmly sellers heading into Thursday’s 6 p.m. trade deadline.
The Twins are also expected to deal Harrison Bader, Willi Castro and Danny Coulombe before the deadline.

Minnesota has gone 3-6 since the All-Star break, which came on the heels of a rough June that continued into July.
Jimenez, who primarily has been playing catcher, has slashed .250/.339/.440 in the Florida Complex League this season, as well as hit six home runs.
