Marsh and Sosa collided while going for Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s seventh-inning popup. Sosa was backpedaling when Marsh ran into him from behind. Sosa grabbed at his back after falling.

“The sun was obviously a factor a little bit,” Marsh told reporters. “I saw the ball was hit, figured it was Trea [Tuner]’s ball but he couldn’t see cause of the sun. And when I looked down at Sosa and Trea, I noticed the ball was in the middle of them. So I thought I had to go make the play. But Sosa said he was saying he had it. I just didn’t hear him. That’s my fault, I should have backed off.

“I just gotta have better ears.”

Sosa was helped off the field and replaced by Otto Kemp for the remainder of the 9-4 Phillies win.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson said after the game that Sosa was doing “a lot better” than he expected.

The Phillies have won the first two games of the series against the Yankees and will go for the sweep on Sunday with Zack Wheeler on the mound against Carlos Rodón.
