Jimmy Kimmel Rages After Shocking Stephen Colbert Cancellation: “F*** You And All Your Sheldons, CBS”

Late night television will never be the same.

CBS has made the shocking decision to cancel The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, claiming it is “purely a financial decision.” The cancellation comes amid Paramount’s tense merger with Skydance Media which was at the mercy of the Trump administration’s approval. The decision also comes just days after Stephen Colbert spoke out against Paramount’s $16 million settlement with President Trump on the late night show, calling it a “big fat bribe.”

“I don’t know if anything — anything — will repair my trust in this company,” Colbert said just days ago. “But, just taking a stab at it, I’d say $16 million would help.”

Several have spoken out in support of Colbert, including fellow comedian Jimmy Kimmel who is currently on hiatus from his own late night show.

Kimmel raged against CBS in a post made to his Instagram Story. He shared a video of Colbert breaking the news on The Late Show Thursday (July 17) with the message, “Love you Stephen. Fuck you and all your Sheldons CBS.”

Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen also admitted he was “stunned” by the news.

“I think it’s a sad day for late-night television,” he told Deadline. “I think it’s a sad day for CBS. I think Stephen Colbert is a singular talent. He’s going to have an incredible next chapter.”

Cohen continued, “I can’t believe CBS is turning off the lights at 11:30 after the local news. I’m stunned. He’s one of three late-night shows deemed worthy enough for an Emmy nomination. He produces a brilliant show.”

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert will be ending in May 2026.

“It’s not just the end of our show, but it’s the end of the Late Show on CBS,” Colbert said on The Late Show Thursday after sharing that he had only just learned the news himself the night before. “I’m not being replaced, this is all just going away.”

The Late Show received its 33rd Emmy nomination just this week. It is among just three talk shows nominated this year for Outstanding Talk Series.

Senator Elizabeth Warren questioned the legitimacy of Colbert’s cancellation with a post on X, pointing out, “CBS canceled Colbert’s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump – a deal that looks like bribery.”

“America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons,” she wrote.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights 11:35 p.m./10:35 p.m. on CBS.
