The two major Yankees issues that will be front and center at MLB trade deadline
Brian Cashman neither minimized his team’s current shopping list nor the expected intensity that will be applied to address it before the July 31 trade deadline.
“We’re going to town,” Cashman said Wednesday. “We’re going to do everything possible to improve ourselves and try to match up, and hopefully at the end of it all, we’ll have whatever is here on this current roster remaining healthy, and we’ll add to it and be proud of that and take our shot.”

He acknowledged being at the mercy of how deep the pool of available players will be and that he does not know that scope fully yet. But Cashman has been in this job since 1998, and usually — though not 100 percent — when he has a contender, he makes multiple trades before the deadline.
Cashman has three weeks to fortify a roster to try to win the AL East for a second straight year, at a time when four teams from the division were in playoff position as the weekend began, and to try to win a second straight pennant (and more).
