Kim Carnes seemingly shades JoJo Siwa’s viral ‘Betty Davis Eyes’ cover
Add “Betty Davis Eyes” singer Kim Carnes to the list of people not loving JoJo Siwa’s cover of the ’70s song.
Carnes, who popularized the song with her version in 1981, seemingly shaded Siwa in a since-deleted social media post.

“There is a difference between singing a song … And embodying it. … I’ve always believe authenticity is what makes music timeless,” Carnes, 79, allegedly wrote via Instagram, according to a screenshot shared on Reddit. “I’m forever grateful to the the voice behind this one. … Bette Davis Eyes…”
The post, however, is no longer available to view.
Carnes’ rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Carnes’ version of “Bette Davis Eyes” spent nine weeks topping the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and won Grammys for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year in 1982.
Siwa, who recently released snippets of her surprise cover and its accompanying video, in which she’s styled as a ’50s housewife, has received overwhelmingly negative feedback. Critics have taken to the comments section to voice their harsh opinions, particularly when it comes to her raspy vocals and alleged use of autotune.
“What an awful day to not be deaf,” one comment on Siwa’s Tiktok post reads.
“U need more honest ppl on ur team,” another comment reads.
The comments were similar on Instagram.
“You have a hidden talent ✨😛🧚🏻♀️🤩😽😍✨ keep it hidden girl💋✨🧚🏻♀️,” one comment reads.
“Why do you sound like you’ve been smoking 3 packs a day for 50 years,” another user wrote.
The “Dance Moms” alum will be releasing her full cover of “Bette Davis Eyes” on Friday.
She recently performed the song in Mexico City, where she gave a shoutout to her boyfriend, Chris Hughes. Instead of singing the lyrics, “She’s got Bette Davis Eyes,” she sang, “She’s got Chris Hughes’ eyes.”
Let’s be honest—no matter how stressful the day gets, a good viral video can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a funny pet doing something silly, a heartwarming moment between strangers, or a wild dance challenge, viral videos are what keep the internet fun and alive.
