Jesse Winker pulled from game as new Mets injury concern emerges


BALTIMORE — Jesse Winker’s return to the Mets lasted all of three plate appearances before the arrival of another injury concern.

The veteran DH departed Game 1 of Thursday’s doubleheader against the Orioles with what the team termed as back tightness.

Winker popped out in the first inning and was replaced in the batting order by Mark Vientos in the third inning of a scoreless game.

He returned Tuesday from a two-month stay on the injured list for an oblique strain.

Another veteran DH option, Starling Marte, was placed on the IL this week with discomfort stemming from a bone bruise in his right knee.
