NYC maniac who attacked 60-year-old woman with hammer sentenced 25 years to life

A maniac who viciously attacked a 60-year-old straphanger with a hammer at a Queens subway station was hit with the max sentence Thursday – as the judge praised the battered victim’s strength.

William Blount, who was found guilty of robbery, assault and attempted murder in the Feb. 24, 2022 attack, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, despite his lawyer telling Judge John Zoll that the brute considered his elderly victim “a nice lady.”

“I’ve never seen someone as forthright, honest, with such a sense of decency, and the fact you stayed after this attack – a miracle,” Zoll said of victim Nina Rothschild. “I can’t believe her strength.”

The judge then turned to Blount, 60.

“You’re three times her size and you kicked her back,” he berated him. “She didn’t fall right away so you kicked her again until she fell. You hit her in the head 13 times with a hammer.”

Zoll said he had never sentenced a defendant to the max – until now.

Blount’s lawyer, Garnett Sullivan, bizarrely argued that during Rothschild’s testimony at the trial, the maniac turned to him and said, “She’s such a nice lady.”
