Breaking down Yankees-Mets Subway Series matchups



What a difference less than two months can make. When the Yankees and Mets last faced off in The Subway Series, both teams were in first place, the Yankees took a five-game lead in the AL East — then a season-high — and the Mets were atop their division, still holding off the Phillies. The most talked-about topic was Juan Soto being booed relentlessly by the Yankee Stadium crowd. 

Fast forward to this Fourth of July weekend, when the teams meet again at Citi Field — with each club staggering toward the All-Star break. Soto will receive a warm welcome from the Queens faithful, but that might be it for the free-falling Mets, while the Yankees’ seemingly solid lead in their division has mostly slipped away.
