Nationals’ Jacob Young makes unreal wall-scaling catch

Spider-Man might have suited up on Wednesday during the Nationals-Tigers game.

In actuality, though, it was Nationals center fielder Jacob Young who pulled out some heroics in the top of the ninth inning with an incredible catch in which he scaled the wall to rob an extra-base hit.

Young had to react fast when Tigers outfielder Riley Greene hit a long ball out to deep left-center field.

The Washington outfielder tracked the ball the entire way and then climbed on the wall and, without looking it in all the way, snagged the ball in his glove on the backhand to prevent a hit.

Nationals reliever Kyle Finnegan was elated and in shock as he raised his arms up after the incredible play that Young pulled off.

Young’s defense has been remarkable this season, as he ranks in the 95th percentile in outs above average, according to MLB’s Statcast.

While the catch was impressive, it did not ultimately have a significant impact on the game; the Nationals were already up 9-4, which ended up as the final score.

With the victory, the Nationals split a doubleheader with the best team in the American League after being blown out 11-2 in the matinee.

The crazy catch will likely stand as one of the bright spots for the Nationals this season, as they sit at 38-50 and in last place in the National League East.
