Navy vet killed in Texas police shooting that left one cop hurt: bodycam



A Navy veteran and father of four was shot and killed during a bizarre broad-daylight shootout with Texas cops — in which he appeared to be goading the officers into firing at him in early June, newly released bodycam footage shows.

Salvador Valdiviezo, 35, was killed while a female officer was injured on June 1 after two cops with the El Paso Police Department responded to a family violence call in the residential neighborhood.

The officers encountered an armed Valdiviezo in the driveway of the home. The female officer ordered him to put his hands up as he opened fire.

The startled officer yelped as she started firing back, supported by her male partner behind her, according to their body camera footage.

The officers zigzagged down the road before using a parked truck for cover. Valdiviezo stalked around the front of the car and out into the street as the gunfire resumed.

The female officer ducked behind the trunk of the vehicle to reload her gun while the other cop lingered closer to the edge of the home. Just after she finished replacing her spent magazine, Valdiviezo skirted around the side of the truck and shot at her again.

Both officers fired back while they kept demanding that the shooter get on the ground. Valdiviezo was fatally struck in the chest and the leg, according to the footage. It is unclear how many times he was hit.

The female officer staggered around the side of the truck, realizing she’d been shot in the leg. She squatted down and swiftly applied a Velcro tourniquet to stem the bleeding while the other officer checked on Valdiviezo.

“I’m hit! I’m hit! Ah, f–k!” the female officer said while still keeping her gun trained on Valdiviezo’s prone body.

“Subject down. I got an officer who’s shot,” the male officer said over dispatch.

Valdiviezo was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died.
