After his banishment at the hands of the Faithful in Season 4 Episode 6 of the Peacock reality competition series, Funches sat down with DECIDER to talk about his time in Scotland and why he is actually pulling for Rob Rausch to win it all.

Funches — who had a hard time connecting with his team members and only made a connection with the Love Island heartthrob — explained that for him, it all comes down to Rausch being the “only person” in the castle to have his back.
“I’m rooting for Rob. That’s it. I’m rooting for Rob. If Rob’s a Traitor, I’m rooting for the Traitors. If he was a Faithful, I’d be rooting for the Faithful. But since he is a Traitors, death to the faithful, I guess,” he said with a laugh.
Fans could see the wheels turning in Rausch’s head during the most recent episode, especially after the two men had a conversation over a game of chess where Rausch asked Funches if he’s heard anyone mentioning his name with suspicion. While Funches told DECIDER that he certainly thought his fellow player was “fishing” for info, he likened it to going into work on a day when you’re about to get fired… i.e. what’s the point?
“At that point, I really wasn’t looking into it,” he joked, “I was like, ‘You guys figure it out on your own.’”

Check out DECIDER’s full interview with Funches below.
DECIDER: I want to start by going back to the moment with you and Rob in the last episode when you guys were playing chess. I know you had a little bit of a hard time connecting with people when you were in the castle. What did that connection mean to you with Rob in that moment?
RON FUNCHES: It meant a world to me because, as you saw, throughout my time in the castle, my general nature, which is to be a little quieter, a little more introspective, more introverted was seen as suspicious. It’s something that I’ve dealt with in my life, and it made me feel a little bit agitated. And to have someone like Rob there, who himself has been through with things like that and just learn from him and and him be kind to me, it meant all the world to me. There were times where it felt like he was the only person that really had my back. I’m not supposed to talk about things behind the scenes, but we played chess every day together. He was a guy who really spent the time with me. That’s why I knew he’s not just some country bumpkin from Alabama, he’s a very smart man. We learned that our families have some similar backgrounds. I think my favorite part from my time in the castle is that my my friendship with Rob.
As somebody who loves watching the show, my alarm bells went off the moment he started asking you if there’s any heat on his name, were there red flags there for you?
It did feel like general fishing to me, but [it felt like when] you have to show up for work and you’re like, “Oh, I know they’re firing me today.” So at that point I really wasn’t looking into it. But watching it back, it’s clear as day that he’s fishing and kind of at odds with himself. Rob’s a great guy, he’s a sweet man, he would much rather be Faithful. And I think that was a moment where you really see that he is like kind of begging to reveal himself.
I think my favorite tweet that I saw was like, “I think Ron probably knew Rob was a Traitor and didn’t care at that point.”
[Laughs] Yeah, I was like, “You guys figure it out on your own.”
Cyou confirm that the Ron and Rob bromance is still alive?
It is very real. It is not for TV. If they’re my friends, they’re my friends for life. We. We got plans to see each other for the before the reunion, go to mini golf together. I asked him before I left the castle, I was like, “If I’m leaving, can I go on a snake hunt with you and just do something?” I love doing things outside of my nature, and that’s something I think I would be terrified of. So he’s gonna come here, we’re gonna go mini golf and I’m going to go do some snake hunting.
Going back a little bit further to another person that you trusted in the castle, Donna [Kelce] obviously ended up being the Secret Traitor. Did you have any idea that she might even be capable of pulling off that role at all?
I’m not going to say that I didn’t think Donna was capable. She is a very capable woman who has raised two kids […], [who] we know about are amazing and in the public eye and never get in any type of trouble. They come from good stock. And that’s why I was so sweet and kind. I had worked with Travis on Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity and I knew how great of a real human being he was. So when I met Donna, I was like, “I gotta be sweet and kind to this man’s mom.” That’s just how I was raised. I’d say by the second day I had some great inklings that she probably was [a Traitor]. She was talking about how she was awestruck about all of us. And I’m like, “Come on, girl. You hang out with Taylor Swift.”
And given your connection and how much heat you’ve received since then, have you guys talked? Have you chatted about the show?
I’ve talked to Donna just a little bit. Not much about that. More, she just said that she was sorry for all that heat that right in with me. That right in with her calls me is the last thing that she said to me.
I know a lot of the Faithful that I talk to who are banished are a little upset but say they’re still pulling for the faithful to win. Who you rooting for in this moment?
I’m rooting for Rob. That’s it. I’m rooting for Rob. If Rob’s a Traitor, I’m rooting for the Traitors. If he was a Faithful, I’d be rooting for the Faithful. But since he is a Traitors, death to the faithful, I guess [laughs].
It was close, though. Going back to that last roundtable, I was surprised by how much the split ended up being because I that came out of left field. I feel like the the Lisa and Colton stuff really threw things.
I was really surprised, I was like, “Come on guys, I was already in my room, I had already packed my bags. So don’t make me unpack again. I’m not prepared for the big banquet.” We all knew this was the way it was going to go, but I think it was a real testament to my ability to defend myself and stay myself at all times. That at least some people who had been suspicious of me all alone all along, started to come around. I feel how close that vote was, is. I’m proud of that. I’m proud of that. Because that to me means I was able to stay myself. I never attacked anyone. I never was like, here’s why I’m not. I accepted reality and was just like, I want to tell you guys the joy that I did have here because it’s one of the most unique experience, if not the most unique experience, I have ever had in my life.
