Walz and Frey’s inciteful rhetoric: Letters

The Issue: Gov. Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey encouraging protests that caused Renee Good’s death.
Gov. Tim Walz’s rhetoric and sanctuary policies are indirectly responsible for laying the groundwork that resulted in the tragic death of Renee Nicole Good (“Willful Chaos,” Andrew Cherkasky & Katie Cherkasky, PostOpinion, Jan. 15).

Since Good’s death, both he and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s rhetoric has been amplified, causing demonstrations to escalate.
We are now at a very serious inflection point where the statements made by Walz and Frey will only result in more death and destruction.
The federal government should give serious consideration to implementing the Insurrection Act.

Frey and Walz’s vitriol is a contributing factor to the poisonous political environment and hatred of ICE agents and law-enforcement authorities in general.
These imbecilic politicians need to shut up, and let the FBI investigation proceed with established federal procedure.

Walz and Frey do what all progressive leaders do: They stand on the sidelines making snowballs and encourage the useful idiots to go out and throw them. We are watching it happen in real time.

I can’t help but think Minnesota officials are partly to blame for Good’s murder. If they hadn’t condoned the protesters’ actions, the outcome might have been different.
Elected officials are not here to poke the fires.
No one should be murdered because of the illegal immigrants in this country; not innocent men and women, not police officers and not ICE agents.

Both Frey and Walz shrank from their duty to keep the peace in 2020 during the George Floyd protests. Now, violent protests are being directed against the enforcement of federal immigration laws, and once again both officials are insinuating that it is justified and patriotic.
As Samuel Johnson said, patriotism is often “the last refuge of the scoundrel.”

Millions of Americans have watched as Frey encourages violence against ICE agents as they attempt to remove felons off the streets.
Attorney General Pam Bondi needs to act now, starting with the arrest of any official who calls for violence. The longer she hesitates, the bolder the angry mob becomes.

The Issue: President Trump’s investigation into Jerome Powell’s costly Federal Reserve renovations.
Sure, after 10 months of President Trump lambasting Fed chief Jerome Powell for being “too late” on lowering interest rates, the administration’s legal maneuvers now reek of political retribution (“Prosecuting Powell Will Backfire,” Editorial, Jan. 13).
But since when would Trump pull the trigger on something this obvious unless there is damning evidence? Just because Powell only has four months left in office, is he entitled to a “Get out of jail, free” card? Whatever happened to “No one is above the law?”

Powell has had to endure degrading insults from the president because he’s consistently refused to do what Trump wants him to do. Now, insults are the least of his challenges, as an indictment against the central bank is a possibility. This wouldn’t have been considered if Powell had done what Trump wanted as Fed chairman.
I thought Trump would leave the poor man alone now, given that Powell’s term ends in four months. I should’ve known better.
