Warner — who dislocated and broke his ankle in a Week 6 contest against the Buccaneers — had appeared to make a solid case to suit up for the big playoff showdown in Seattle after he returned to Niners workouts following the opening of his practice window on Tuesday.
He was seen breezing through drills and starting and stopping on his surgically repaired leg with relative ease all week.
And, he seemed to believe there was at least some chance he could play in the team’s Divisional Round tilt when he told reporters at his locker Wednesday he was taking things “day by day.”
“The expectation is to continue to take it day by day,” he said, “and see where we’re at.”
Kyle Shanahan said on Tuesday Warner’s best chance to play this postseason would be the NFC Championship Game should the Niners make it, and even though Warner looked the part on multiple occasions this week, the Niners head coach is clearly not veering from that plan.
Warner, a four-time All-Pro, logged snaps in six games prior to his injury, recording 51 total tackles and two forced fumbles.
Elsewhere on the 49ers injury front, receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee), linebacker Dee Winters (ankle), linebacker Luke Gifford (quadriceps) and wideout Jacob Cowing (hamstring) were all deemed questionable for Saturday. Defensive back Ji’Ayir Brown (hamstring) was ruled out.
