Another Altadena homeowner finds unwelcome bear roommate

Another unlucky LA County homeowner is living just with the bear necessities after a massive bruin took up residence under their home.

The beast has taken up residence at a different house in Altadena just a week after a 550-lb. black bear was forcibly rousted from his perch under a nearby home, where it had lived for 37 days.

Footage of the big bruin hiding under the house was given to KTLA by the homeowner who wished to remain anonymous according to the outlet.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife said it’s investigating that video to determine whether the second incident involves the previous bear — tagged “Yellow 2120” — or if it’s a new bruin.

Altadena resident Ken Johnson’s life was turned upside down by the bear that holed up in his crawl space just after Thanksgiving last November.

The creature kept him up at night, ruined Christmas, and caused heavy damage to his home.

Johnson’s furry housemate finally left last Thursday after a brigade of paintballers from the resort area of Lake Tahoe, California called “The Bear League” pelted at him with greasy projectiles filled with vegetable oil — a tactic used frequently by the group.

Johnson said he suspects the bear report in the new home is really his former housemate, and that it simply found a new place to camp.

“I’m pretty sure it’s the same one, I saw him run off that way.” Johnson told The Post. He said the new home appears to be in the direction where “Yellow 2120” was headed.

The latest home is located just below the foothills of Altadena and borders the Angeles National Forest. The beasts often descend into the neighborhood foraging for food and looking for spots like crawlspaces to hunker down, according to the CDFW.

“It’s such a popular place for bears,” said CDFW spokesperson Cort Koppling.

When the CDFW was trying to catch Jonson’s bear with a metal trap filled with sardines and peanut butter, the contraption ended up nabbing the wrong bear, another wandering the neighborhood.

Johnson told The Post he has some advice for the homeowners who have a new housemate, “First, remain calm, get an air horn in case it comes at you, and get in touch with the Bear League, they know what they’re doing.
